Sports Physicals for Kids
Participating in sports and extracurricular activities boasts substantial advantages in the mental and physical development of children. According to the CDC, physical activity provides a variety of overall health benefits for children. These benefits include:
- Improved academic performance
- Increased brain health and depression prevention
- Muscular fitness
- Heart and lung health
- Reduction of long-term health issues like type 2 diabetes
- Bone strength
- Healthy weight maintenance
Sports physicals are an important part of your child’s health care. They can prevent injury to help your child get the most out of their sports season. In the state of Texas, students who wish to participate in interscholastic athletics must complete a Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) before playing sports. Exams are similar to a routine physical and include:
- Vitals check
- Eye exam
- Fitness assessment
- Joints and flexibility check
- Medical history form review

School Physicals
According to Texas Guide to School Health Programs, students are not required to complete an overall school physical exam for enrollment. However, students are required to complete both hearing and vision screenings prior to the school year for first-time enrollment. These screenings help to determine whether or not they are classroom-ready.
We are pleased to conveniently offer vision screenings at our urgent care center. Treatment for vision issues may include:
- Prescriptions for glasses and/or contacts
- Eye patches
- Eye exercises
- Surgical measures in severe instances like cataracts or glaucoma
Hearing screening can be conducted with a specialist. Talk to your child’s school to learn more.
Urgent Care Sports Physicals
Scheduling an appointment with your primary care physician can take time. Schools often require physical examinations to be completed in a short window before the start of the school year or sports season. An urgent care sports physical helps you do just that.
